Women Supporting Women:
Why We’re More Powerful Together
There is something powerful about being surrounded by women who want to see you do well.
Women who encourage you to share your ideas. Women who remind you of what you have to offer when you have started doubting yourself. Women who celebrate your progress because they understand what it took for you to get there.
That is what women supporting women can look like. And those everyday moments of encouragement, connection and generosity can make a real difference.
We all bring our own experiences, knowledge, ideas and strengths. When we come together and share them, we give each other more to work with.
Someone has faced a challenge you are working through. Someone knows a person you would benefit from meeting. Someone can see a strength in you that you have been overlooking.
That is the power of community.
Encouragement helps women move forward
Sometimes a woman has been sitting with an idea for months, wondering whether she is ready to do something with it.
She wants to start the business, share her work, offer something new or put herself forward. But she keeps questioning herself.
Having someone listen, ask thoughtful questions and offer encouragement can help her take that next step.
And encouragement becomes even more valuable when it is specific.
“You explained that so clearly. Have you thought about sharing it in a post?”
“Your experience could really help someone who is starting out.”
“Let’s talk through what you need to do first.”
These conversations can help us recognize possibilities we were struggling to see on our own. Over time, being heard and taken seriously can help us feel more confident about contributing our ideas.
Women uplifting women makes everyday progress matter
So much of what we achieve happens quietly.
Sending the proposal. Publishing the first post. Following up with a potential client. Asking for help. Trying again after something did not work.
These moments might seem small to someone else, but we know how much courage and effort they can take.
Supporting another woman can mean remembering the goal she told you about and asking how it is going. It can mean sharing her business with someone who needs what she offers, acknowledging her contribution or making a useful introduction.
You do not need a large audience or a successful business to make another woman feel seen.
Your attention, encouragement and willingness to show up can mean a great deal.
The power of community for women in business
Building a business can feel lonely, especially when you are making decisions by yourself and the people around you do not fully understand what you are working towards.
You might spend hours questioning your pricing, rewriting a message or wondering where to focus your energy next.
A supportive community for women in business gives you people to talk those things through with.
Other women can share their experiences, offer a different perspective and ask questions you might not have considered. A conversation can help you work out what needs your attention and what your next step could be.
Relationships can also create opportunities for collaboration, referrals and greater visibility. As we get to know each other’s work, we become better able to recognise opportunities that could suit someone else.
That connection grows through participation. Asking questions, listening, sharing what you know and following up all help turn an introduction into a meaningful relationship.
We have something to learn from each other
Every woman brings a different combination of experience and understanding.
One might be comfortable showing up on video. Another might know how to explain an offer clearly. Someone else might have a practical way of organizing her week or following up with customers.
When we share what we have learned, we help each other approach challenges with more information and more options.
And you do not need to have everything figured out before you can contribute.
Something you learned last month could be exactly what another woman needs help with today. A question you ask could start a conversation that helps several other women too.
There is value in your experience, including the parts you are still working through.
How to support other women in everyday ways
Women supporting women becomes meaningful through the things we do consistently.
You can start with the women already around you:
- Ask what she is working towards, and listen to her answer.
- Recommend her business when it is a good fit for someone’s needs.
- Offer thoughtful feedback when she asks for it.
- Celebrate her progress and give her space to enjoy it.
- Share a resource that could help with a challenge she has mentioned.
- Make an introduction when you see a useful connection.
- Check in after the launch, meeting or difficult week she told you about.
Let yourself receive support too.
Ask the question. Share the idea. Tell someone when you are struggling to work out your next step.
A community grows stronger when its members have room to contribute and to be supported.
